AI and Society
AI is transforming our world. Through rigorous research, we ensure it transforms it for the better.
Artificial intelligence is transforming society. But it’s not enough to develop AI that is powerful, it should also be beneficial, transparent, and equitable. Our world-class faculty work to create a responsible AI ecosystem where AI advances are aligned with human values and societal goals, balancing technological innovation with ethical and social responsibility.
There are many challenges remaining. We need to understand how AI affects, interacts with, and shapes societal structures, values, and human relationships, which includes answering questions of fairness, accountability, transparency, and the alignment of AI with human-centric goals. We need to understand the moral and ethical dimensions of AI, as well as the regulatory and policy frameworks necessary to manage AI’s impact, to ensure AI systems are developed and deployed in ways that respect human rights, fairness, privacy, and transparency, and are aligned with ethical standards and societal expectations. And we need to address global challenges and create positive social impact, such as in healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, and disaster response, which involves interdisciplinary collaboration between AI researchers and experts in social sciences, public policy, and domain-specific areas.
